As you prepare for this conference (or any Bible event really), I have a few tips for you.
Keep Your Bible Open
Think about it. You are about to attend a conference led by speakers. These speakers are just like you…sinners saved by grace.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:23, NIV
You have read about my biggest fear before. As you prepare for this event, be ready to validate what you hear. Read the truth for yourself. As speakers share their thoughts and key points, make sure they align with Truth. I do not believe anyone would intentionally misquote scripture. Maybe I am too trusting, but I do not believe people intend to mishandle God’s Word. However, it happens. Be prepared. Open your Bible as you listen. Be a critical thinker.
Grab Your Journal
As you learn, be open to what the Lord may have for you. So often when I attend conferences, I find that I don’t just learn a new key point from a speaker, but the Holy Spirit uses a speaker’s key point to get me thinking.
New ideas form.
New learning happens.
A journal is a great way to explore ideas, process new thoughts, and circle back to what the Lord may be teaching you. A journal isn’t just for taking notes on what you hear. It is a place to process your own thoughts and ideas. It is a place to allow yourself to slow down enough to listen to the Holy Spirit, “he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13, NLT).
Connect with Others
We are called to be in community. As an introvert, I love curling up on my coach with my books, journals, and pens. But, hoarding our learning for ourselves prevents us from the full benefits of the experience. We need others!
We sharpen one another when we are in community (see Proverbs 27:17).
We encourage one another (see Hebrews 3:13).
We hold one another accountable to Truth (see Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).
If you are looking for ways to connect, see your confirmation email for the Bible Journaling Conference, and join the Facebook group. Come connect with others who follow Proverbs3Three in our Bible Study Facebook group. Reach out to your church and find a group. Connection is important!
